I have a strangely conflicted relationship with this podcast. I love the production values, I think the story and world-building is brilliant, Aram's imagination is second to none and his way of narrating the combats and events is exemplary. BUT... and sorry makers... I literally can't stand the characters, their dynamics and the way they interact with the storyline. I catch myself hoping every time I listen that some giant monster will come along and eat the lot of them so we could restart with some more interesting and nuanced characters that don't just try to blow everything up all the time. I'm sure all the fans will disagree heartily, but this could be so much more popular if the characters were as interesting and were as challenged by the story as they should be, there never seems to be any real risk or threat to them, which really undermines away the drama.

Ouch. Okay. I am playing my character as one who is constantly looking for a diplomatic solution because he doesn't even want his pursuers hurt. Maybe I'm not the best voice actor ever because I am a photographer and editor in real life, not an actor: just trying to have fun here playing D&D, but I feel that I am playing my character true to who he is. Perhaps you want my character to die, and that is your prerogative as a listener. I specifically try not to destroy or "blow up" anything. I am sorry that you don't find my character interesting.

I do think that the Godlings have yet to encounter a serious "threat" to their lives, even though Dorro has come closest on several occasions, but I wouldn't say the characters are not interesting. We are learning about these characters as they develop, which I think is vital to the story. If they were already completely fleshed out, there would be no room for growth, and let's face it, each character has kinda had their lives changed greatly since becoming Godlings. They now have to deal with their power and the consequences of using that power. Xion seems to think about this a lot, Dorro seems to be becoming a "protector" of the group, willing to do whatever it takes to make sure his friends don't get hurt, and Phrynae (forgive the spelling) doesn't give a damn about short-sighted goals or possible consequences to her actions, having been raised as royalty. I think one of the most fascinating things about this podcast is how the players are truly role-playing these characters to be true to themselves. Watching them grow and evolve has become a high point of the show for me, personally.

goodmania i will agree i'm not to worried about them getting killed but besides that your way off base. All the characters are objectively great.
Xion really reminds me of one of my good friends in the way he talks and deals with problems. He really grounds the podcast for me his characters action and view just seems so believable as he acts just like people i know. He seems to really care about his family even if there now his enemies and it really makes me want to find out how that all plays out.
Torrvic has a amazing accent he is really fun to hear talk. His divine power does not seem to act as quickly as the rest of the group so he seems to end up being toe to toe with enemies more making him seem to bring the most excitement into combat. i like his almost depressed drunk personalty it plays off of Dorro really well
Dorro I love the most. His pure chaotic personalty is just really fun. He is a man of action and keeps the flow of story moving. He prevents it from ever getting boring. Plus he has a pile of really funny one liner that make me laugh out load.
That said i would not be against one of them being killed. It would confirm that Aram will let them die. It would be a shocking moment and then i could see one of the players play something else which would be cool to see. I just don't think its necessary.

The only character that I've ever really had a problem with was Phryane, she just didn't seem like a very good fit for the party. So I was highly amused when the other three members of the original party started to question whether or not she was actually an evil mastermind of some sort.
Xion I'll give you isn't the most exciting character but he stays true to the character he's developed so far. He also has been fulfilling the role of tactician to an extent and seems to be a good guide/focus for the other characters when they start running into strange magical things that could get them all into trouble.
While Xion helps to keep things in order for the most part, the combination of Torrvic and Dorro is what brings the spice and variety. I don't think this show would be as good without the balance that they've all struck. I believe that they really carry the show together between their antics and moving the story along.
As for any of them dieing, they're only level 5 right now and I personally am not much of a fan of a heavy story based game having characters die off early on. I think in a campaign with such a strong focus on the story telling that if a character were to die then it would have the most impact if it happened at a critical moment.
