After listening to Episode #035 The Union (Part 6):
Xion believes the Union to be a testing ground for emerging godlings like himself, or perhaps a testing ground built by Barros (old God of Order) with the controlled help of Ius (old God of the Moon) and Ogun (old God of Earth) to test demigods, given what the party had learned long ago in the Temple of Orum. Why build such facility? What was Barros up to? That remains to be seen.
Questions that Xion has:
- How did the Godking get here from Turtle Bay?
- What happened to the Godking's Artifacts?
- What does the comet have in connection with this place?
- What is the purpose of the comet and who released it, for it still circles the planet to this day, even following the attack in Turtle Bay?
- What is the purpose of the Union? It seems like a lot of effort to create chambers of death when one could easily create a nicely-appointed palace instead.
- What ARE we (the Awakened/Godlings)?
- How did we come to be and were known even before our births?
- How does the Union change in relation to those traveling to it (given our character pieces in the Chamber of War and Travel, this tower seems to be tailor-made for us)?
- When was this place built? (We supposedly know by whom, given the markings at the first antechamber, if they are to be believed)
- What is the force turning the Godking into a litch-king (assuming our visions are correct: I have yet to sink beneath the water, as was in my first vision; so it could be that visions are incredibly imprecise)?
- What does the force that is working to "corrupt" the Godking want with us? If anything at all?
- Are the Old Gods still "alive?"
- Why was Jakob Kladivo chosen by Zavahn to fill his shoes (no offense, but he was but a pre-Kadarian farmer . . . supposedly)?
- THOUGH, Godking Kladivo SURE had a lot of powerful magical items in the vault that Sirena led us to that supposedly came from his days prior to being the Godking. Strange for a simple farmer to possess so many near-artifact-level items (now [mostly] in our possession). He was no simple farmer as the legends say.
These are some of the questions that a hopefully sentient non-litch Godking can answer, should we reach him in time. Here are some other threats that we face that are a little longer-game:
- Gal-Hadir: I assume, and it is speculation, that the stones being gathered in The Bluffs by slaves are for the benefit of Gal-Hadir. The Northern Dwarves must have unlocked the secrets of the stones sooner than we have, though I doubt the Empire of Kadar has done the same and is acting as a go-between lackey.
- Rylendic Conspiracy: Quite obviously, they have been doing experiments to determine the use of Godstones in harnessing Divinity. You can bet that I will continue my research when it is possible. I see them as dilettantes and pretenders.
- "Goldylocks Grabbyhands" supplicants: Three Unawakened were capable of using magic as was described to me by Dorro in his run-in with them upon the ship that he destroyed. The magic-users got that power somehow. Either "Grabbyhands" has evolved to the point that he is able to imbue his trusted disciples with (limited) power, or he has somehow harnessed the power of the Godstones/Seeker Stones and has learned to transfer power (which we are not far from that very breakthrough — and is already in Xion's "theoretical" list of things to do). [I'm going to call the stones "Godstones" from now on. "Seeker Stones" is a colloquialism from Kadar stemming from that culture's incomplete knowledge of what the stones are actually doing — these rocks glow in the presence of Divinity not as a final result of the power of the stone, but as a byproduct of their potential use]
